1 Timothy 2:4
"Who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."
Do you contribute to your own misery? Sometimes it's hard to accept the truth especially if it is not from our own well-written book. After all, the book we write for life holds great truths! This is vainly because we are creatures of habit and find answers from previous experiences that validate our morals in doing so. But, occasionally, these truths are not evident in our fellow brethren, and for the life of us, we can't understand why they don't see to our liking.
These are the days we hold those arduously written scripts of dialogue in our heads. The times when someone or something upsets us so much that we begin the intervention of dialogue in our head before we actually meet the perpetrator. I was very upset with a new guideline placed recently in our public school system. It states that students must now attain the 80/20 testing rule for personal evaluation. Eighty percent of a student's grades is now derived from summative assessment. Summative assessments are those chapter tests my child studies days for. Twenty percent is formative. Formative is quizzes, labs, and other class assignments gathered throughout the semester. There is no credit for homework given anymore, but it is encouraged to be utilized as one MUST learn to study for the test this way. Furthermore, if tests prove failing grades, more packet work (unmeasureable again) will be given to HELP him study for retakes.
Seeing my child suffer is a dreadful feat. It just twists your insides making daily breathing labored. Thankfully a PST (Parent-Student Team) was called in to see if amends could be made. Before the meeting I wrote the script in my head. All week I practiced the script I was going to say to the consulting members. Once a day I wrote and rewrote the script to ensure I was making proper concessions. I'm certain I spent endless hours throughout intermittent times that week ensuring my point would not be taken lightly. When I got to the meeting, the venue took a different course, and seated members had already planned on working with us. How much time was wasted contributing to my own misery that week? - quite a bit needless to say.
Note that Timothy speaks of knowing the truth. This truth may not be in our personal written book, but rather God's. We may not be privy to the information in it when these incidents manifest, but know that God already has it taken care of in his plans. Did I aide my cause by hashing the differences out each hour of the day? Of course not! Did it matter that I wrote and rewrote my internal dialogue to account for anything anyone would say? Of course not! Life took a different turn. And, that unfortunately, Folks is the essence of self misery. We often blow things out of proportion with our internal dialogue and cause great stife in doing so. Stop that negative internal dialogue before it stops you!
Daily Guidance
1. Watch out for prewritten internal scripts. They are nothing but trouble. They waste precious time.
2. Be aware when that "take charge" attitude starts shuffling you in the wrong direction. You don't always have to be right. You may find the absolute truth is different than your previously edited version.
3. Do research first! Talking to others or simply researching what is upsetting you may lead you to other's who have experienced the same. Being in "good company" makes life's nuances a bit easier to swallow.
