Psalm 103:1-2
"Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."
It is a wondrous task to daily stop and think about all the great things God has put in your life. This has both a psychological and spiritual effect on us. We can measurably see how God is blessing us; therefore, renewing our soul and mind in the process. It is important to take out a slot in the morning or evening to verbally express gratitude for all the many blessings he bestows. If your response is anything like David's, full of gratitude and praise, then you are bound for more gifts from above. In the Bible, David is spoken of as a young man and then an older king. He was far from perfect, but God said he was a man after his own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). That is because he loved to worship God as he was thanking him. Do you praise God as you are giving thanks?
David wrote today's verse a thousand years before Jesus set foot on this earth. In the larger psalm, David reflects on the many blessings and good things God has given him. He then responds in praise. If you are not keen on the aspect of praise, you need to open to the book of psalms, read on, and see how it is appropriately done. The book of Psalms is the book of praise and thanksgiving. By praising and giving thanks you open a whole new traffic flow of good deeds from above.
In the Bible these words of praise are beautifully expressed. "Bless the Lord, o my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name." Feel free to give this an up-to-date makeover, "Thank you so much Lord! Thank you for all you have given me. You are awesome!" Be sure to list all the specific blessings you received that day. God doesn't need a generalist. Take the time!
Why should we praise God?
1. God forgives our sins.
2. God heals our illnesses.
3. God redeems us.
4. God loves us.
5. God gives us good things.
6. God renews us.
Take time each day to do your affirmations. As you do be sure to enter words of praise. Try the prayer below to get started. It is important to do affirmations daily just as we do our prayers and be sure to evoke words of praise when doing so.

I thank you for _________, _____________, ___________ today.
I am blessed to have you by my side.
Praise you, praise you, praise you!
