Acts 24:25
"Felix became alarmed and terrified and said, Go away for the present; when I have a convenient opportunity, I will send for you.”
We are all shutting down and shutting out others for fear of contamination due to the recent pandemic of Corona Virus. It puts us in a quite a predicament since we are not islands, we do not stand alone. It is through others that we feel best.
God made us to stand by one and other. So, it is with certainty that many of us may feel isolation and depression as the days wane on. This is especially true for our older citizens past 60 who are trying to shut themselves in doors keeping the virus at bay.
The Bible tells a story of a man who did onto follow God because doing so would have been inconvenient. This man, Felix, asked Paul to come and preach the Gospel to him. But when Paul started talking to him about right living, purity of life, and controlling his passions, Felix became alarmed and frightened. He told Paul to go away and that he would call him at a more convenient time.
Making things convenient can be difficult now. Basic necessities of life such as shopping, doctor appointments, and helping our neighbor must be done fastidiously. We are practicing social distancing that has been mandated by our local government. So, we too, reschedule and disconnect from life.
When the Israelites were traveling through the wilderness, they were led by a cloud during the day and a pillar of fire by night. When the cloud moved, they had to move. When it hovered, they stayed where they were (Num. 9:15-23). The Bible says that sometimes it moved during the day and sometimes it moved at night. Sometimes it rested for a few days and sometimes it rested for one day.
I feel we are under that cloud right now. That cloud that is protecting us from whatever is out there. You may feel it, too. Don't be like Felix trying to find the most convenient means to allow God's protection. Open your heart and let God guide you until this fiasco moves away from us. Open your mind to prayer. Pray for guidance. God will send you the signs and messages that you need today.
God knows best, and His timing is always right. The fact that you don't feel he is here today doesn't mean He isn't. God's timing is perfect, and His ways are not always our ways, but they are higher and better than our own ways (Isa. 55.9)
Friends, move with the cloud. Let God guide your heart for your next step.
This Week's Meditation:
Teach me to "stay with the cloud."
Pray:
Help me to meditate: show me what to do.
Teach me to be patient and know you will guide me.
Remind me that I need your help first.
Meditate on this for several minutes a day. Allow various thoughts to come into your mind. And realize God has you in his arms always.
