Genesis 2:16
"And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree in the garden."
Fighting the battle of the bulge?
Frustrating that as you age the pounds seem to come on quicker?
Well, after God created Adam and Eve, he gave them some very simple ding instructions. You may freely eat of every tree of the garden," He said in Genesis 2:16.
Did He say, "You may eat of every Krispy Kreme on the street?" No.
Did He say, "Yes, grab those granola bars those are a healthy quick snack?" No.
Did He say, "Oh, look, those chips are baked! A much better health choice. Throw those in the cart?" No.
He did not tell you to eat fast food, frozen entrees (even if they're Lean Cuisine), or restaurant grab-and-go.
Gosh, let's just name it. We've gotten lazy. Our world is just too busy, and we must find alternate fast food forms that come in nice little packages to round our nutritional requirements for the day.
But look again at that verse. God told Adam and Eve to eat from the garden, and we'd do well to stick to His advice. Let's be honest, we've been inundate with an overwhelming amount of bad diet information from past decodes that has clouded the very simple truths of health eating: eat the foods that come from God, in as close a state as possible to how God made them, and you can't go wrong.
Are you on a diet program with group support? How many of those items in there that have a calorie count come from an exact whole food? I've been on those before. I had to browse down NUMEROUS names for a food I'm logging because there are so many artificial counterparts that come from "wholesome" food companies.
Why can't we just buy the real thing? Probably because it takes too much time to wash, prepare, and stick in a baggie. No, let's take out more money from our family budget to make life easier and pack on those pounds.
Learn to do everything for God's glory, including eating. Don't view eating as a secular event that has nothing to do with your relationship with God. Don't forget that some of God's first words to Adam and Eve were about proper nutrition. If eating had nothing to do with their relationship with him, he would not have mentioned it.
There is nothing wrong with eating a treat in moderation. But, get into those food pantries and clear out the majority of your stock. Give it away and make a special note that you are going to your local produce market and grocer to get real food given to you from God from this moment forward.
This Week's Meditation:
My goodness what am I eating each day?
Pray:
Help me to realize that my relationship with God includes food.
Teach me to make good food choices from items brought to me by Him.
Remind me to pray about this everyday, Lord.
Meditate on this for several minutes a day. Allow various thoughts to come into your mind. And realize God has you in his arms always.
