Psalm 19:1
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."
The psalmist captures the image of the presence of God revealed in all creation. As start my car each morning, I am still in awe when I drive up my single lane road to work each morning that I am consistently greeted- once I reach the top- with the thunder of crashing waves that linger at the end of my block. Here, on even the most robust morning, I am reminded that God is everywhere. The Bible quotes this in today's verse. This simple pleasure has played a significant role in my own spiritual life.
I try to read the Bible each day and pray for everyone out there. I often complete my prayer during walks on the beach that always remind me of the vastness of Gad and his love for me. It is as wide as the ocean, as high as the mountain, and as deep as the sea. During this quiet time, as I walk or lie on the beach, I pray and tell God how much I love him and while I do I feel his love expand in my heart.
This Labor Day will be the same. I will rise, prepare something special for my family and retreat to my favorite place, the beach. While I am there I will bask in the warm rays of sunshine that will fill my heart with God's love. After my reprieve, I will come home and finish a delightful BBQ to end the day and let the people near me know how much they are loved.
What will you do this Labor Day? How will you express gratitude for the fruits of your labor? Who will you share it with? How will you make it special to those you love? Plan today to make a memory.
I am blessed to have this spectacular ocean right outside my door. Here I experience God's presence in nature each day. Where is your special place around your home? If you have none, I encourage you find your reprieve and seek God. Be still. He will be there with you.
Father, I thank you for showing us your presence each day
through nature.
Here, you speak directly to my heart.
Your creation lifts me up,
Help me to find my nature "cathedral".
Amen
