Monday's Blessing
2 Corinthians 9:7
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
Have you been sowing your seeds that we spoke of recently? Trusting in God's word and sowing seeds by helping others is of utmost importance.
Have you ever thought of sowing seeds for your own situation while trusting in God's blessings?
Some first century Christians were struggling to survive in the Greek town of Corinth. The Bible says, "The people were in deep poverty and deep trouble." (2 Corinthians 8:20). What did they do in their time of need? Did they complain and pout? Did they say, "God, why do we have so much trouble coming against us? Not in the least. The Scripture records, "In the midst of their great trouble, they stayed full of joy and they gave generously to others." Notice they sowed a seed in their time of need. They knew if they would help to meet other people's needs, God would meet theirs.
In your times of difficulty, do just what they did. Number one, stay full of joy. Number two, go out and sow a seed. Help someone else, and you will be helped.
The Bible says, "Give generously, for your gifts will return to you later. Divide your gifts among many, for in the days ahead you yourself may need much help" (Ecclesiastes 11:1-2). God is giving us a principle here that will cause us to have our needs supplied during those tough times that do come. Give generously right now, because in the future you may need some help.
And what about you?
Are you in need of a new home or new car? Why not sow a seed of God's trust in your own life? Sow a seed that relates to your specific need.
My family has proved this time and time again. A recent memory involves a vehicle. Our car had almost two hundred thousand miles on it. Each year this SUV took us up the east coast to enjoy family vacations. This happens every summer regardless of lost jobs, income displacement, and car issues. It is the one thing we enjoy most, and God has provided for us each year for the last 15 years.
Well, recently we were almost positive it was at the end of its ropes, and we knew it would not tow our humble pop-up. God placed a new truck before us. My son had been looking, and low and behold several months later he found a truck at a dealership that had been sitting for over 90 days. That reduced price came about in a cost savings of $6,000. It was used, but by only two years.
Even with the reduced cost, I was still plagued with every new car buyer's question, "Can we afford this monthly?" I rechecked the finances and realized it was doable but marginal. I sat on this decision for four days and looked on the Internet during this period noticing it hadn't sold.
"Is God sending me a message," I wondered.
We decided to take the plunge. After all, when would an opportunity come by like this again?
It has been a year and a half, and we are making payments each month successfully. Most importantly, we didn't miss last year's trip!
Maybe you are in a similar situation right now. Maybe you are praying and believing and hoping for a miracle for a change and nothing has changed. Or, maybe that miracle has been sent and is sitting at your feet. Perhaps you need to sow a seed right now. Go out there and do something out of the ordinary. Sow a special offering for yourself. God will pour out his favor in a new way.
