Proverbs 23:26
"My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways."
Surrender has to be one of the most challenging issues we face today. After all, we all love to be in control. When we are, we feel like time runs smoothly addressing our every whim and need. We are elated each minute, full of joy, our cups running over. We secretly pray for is continuance including our joys of thankfulness in each simple request.
But, unfortunately, the reality of life does not let us bask in its glory for too long. Concerns begin to sprout like unwanted weeds just in the midst of the most glorious days. On those days, usually, we are prodding around, minding our own business, trying to keep out of everyone's way, and without warning we are slammed with an unwanted innuendo that someone else felt the need to share. We get upset, retort back, and wished we were home in bed with the covers over our heads. Then we begin to put up our Do Not Disturb Sign, and still, others fail to see it clearly adding more havoc to our day.
My job is a beautiful example of this. There are days I feel a bit off right smack in the morning. I put up my Do Not Disturb Sign, and try to hide behind my desk in hopes no one will offset my already down day. Yet, because of its unsteady nature, and unorganized policies, no matter how hard I try to stay on the straight and narrow, someone will come up to shake my path offsetting me to a large ditch that I must dig myself out of promptly. The sad point is, I find it hard to realize, no matter how many times I tell myself, that there isn't any way I can avoid many of these circumstances.
What I must do, is learn to surrender. Yes, surrender those emotions to God. Each time I feel them, I must realize there is a divine plan in place for me, and by surrendering my emotions I allow God to place a miracle before my eyes. "My son give your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways." God knows we are human. He filled us with these sometimes dreadful emotions. Why even Jesus has been noted to kick over a table in front of his disciples in one parable. We are human, we are expected to become overexcited, inundated with fear, and frustrated with anger. But we must learn to surrender before we engage the influence of the negative. Surrender is an active reminder that there is a divine law in operation, and we are always accountable to it.
Surrender allows us to face the thing we fear most before it becomes reality. The fear of being wrong. The fear of losing control. The fear of being found out. Most of the time the thing we fear most has no power but we power we give it. By surrendering we learn to live through the experience rather than giving our whole life to it. It opens God's miracle to give us a new idea.
Daily Guidance
Try this prayer when you feel the need to surrender but can't.
Dear Lord,
Right now I find myself in the midst of ______. I know that this is not your plan for me to feel the emotion of ________ that is taking over my life right now. I know this is not a direct reflection of your will. Help me to transform this experience into something that is a reflection of your plan for me. With your direction, I know I can fulfill anything you set before my path. I know there is nothing here that has direct power over me but you. I forgive myself for allowing this situation to exist. I surrender right now to you so it is your will not mine.
