Psalm 9:9
"The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble."
Some days there seems to be so much trouble. No matter where you turn, you look for inspiration, God's hand in guidance, to smooth the path making the day a breeze to glide through. Or, maybe you are infused with so much joy, wanting to thank God each moment of the day for the blessings he bestowed.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have God an arm's length away whenever we need him? To really reach out and touch him, a hug, a gesture, to let you know all is well and in control by a divine force that always has your back?
To do so means profound imagery to reproduce the likeness of our Lord into a state we can comprehend. But, how can we do this when no actual picture has ever been taken to spark such a memory? How can we attain such closeness that we has humans desire most?
God is everywhere we are told, in all he has created. Words of wisdom include looking and feeling him in the breeze, the sunshine, the rain. But what if you are more tactile and need some immediate affirmation immediately?
I recently read a book called Kitchen Mystic that offers daily meditational thoughts to spiritually infuse your day. One of the first entries had a profound effect on me. The author finds the presence of God in every day items. In fact, Mary Grieco is reminded of divine presence through onions. Yes, you heard that right, onions. She is reminded of God's ever-varying omnipotent presence through the intricate layers of the onion. She puts onions on everything, and everytime she does she is touched by the wonderful closeness of its creator. Her living space is adorned with pictures and replicas of, yes, the almighty onion. It is here she finds refuge when she gazes upon or chops this delightful vegetable.
What a wonderful thought! Imagine having something so close to you each waking hour to remind you of his divine presence in our lives. It got me thinking, what object, God created of course, could I find to inhabit my life and remind me of his everlasting love and guidance? Such a simple gesture could remind me that he is always working and smoothing out life's wrinkles as the day goes on.
I am on a quest this week to find the perfect imagery of God through one of his creations. I encourage you to do the same. With a perfect object of his creation, one could feel his love throughout each hour of each day. Imagine the possibilities of comfort we could manifest each time we gaze upon it. Such a simple gesture could touch our lives numerously each minute.
