Psalm 16:8
" I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken."
Is your faith on the fence? How often is God a part of your life every day? Do you seem to call upon him when you're in dire straits? Do days pass by before you pray? Do you have a tendency to forget about God until something shakes your roots? Recently, I was speaking with a friend who travels out of the country often He told me he recently watched a movie, Paranormal 2, that depicted the nuances of evil spirits. He had a similar circumstance overseas and wanted my opinion. "I was lying in bed and I felt something pull at my feet. It dragged me across my bed and onto the floor. I kicked and pulled away from it, but it kept trying to drag me closer to the wall. When I awoke, I didn't know if it was a dream or not. I was lying on my back, with my arms folded across my chest, a position I never sleep in. My ankles and calves ached horribly," he said. I immediately asked him about his religious faith. He shared that he prays from time to time but doesn't practice regularly.
This prompted an immediate discussion about being on the fence.
"Are you a practicing Christian?" I asked. I explained how important it is to pick your faith and stand by it, not just when it is convenient for you. I further explained by allowing God to be a complete part of your life, you rule out negative forces, therefore preventing such spirits from taking hold.
"It's easy to think about it if you look at it this way," I stated. "If you are on the fence, you have two forces pulling you in opposite directions. Both want you to adhere to their beliefs. Both feel they have an equal chance of getting your soul permanently. But, if you are in God's grace always, then you have no pull, there is little interference from that evil side because your faith is strongly cemented and will hold fast. There is no evil presence standing by to grasp its talons because you have complete faith God will not allow it." By applying this notion of God's ever presence in your life, you will not be subjected to such atrocities, because God's hand will intervene. This belief of an unwavering faith, helps us not only with negative spiritual pulls, but with life itself. If you believe that God will not allow harm to come to you, than even the worst catastrophes seem a mere inconvenience as God channels peace to help you overcome them.
Daily Guidance
1. If you want to cement your faith more try hanging an index card above your bed. Put the words meditation and prayer. Each evening, begin with 10-20 minutes of spiritual meditation, and end with your evening prayers.
2. Read your Bible each evening. You may start from the beginning, pick a chapter, or look for verse. Anyway you incorporate this into your daily lifestyle helps your mind quiet, and allows God's hand to touch you.
3. Find a church. There are so many churches out there filled with wonderful people sharing the glory of God. Churches are more than gathering points on Sundays. They house help groups, meet singles groups, special events, volunteer services, and help for the needy. Being a part of a group that thinks like you has many blessings. Get involved!
4. Pick up a few religious items. Putting religious items around your house gives you a sense that God is there. It helps remind you of his continuous presence. Church and religious shops offer inexpensive items. I personally, have a cross in every room. It is a reminder that God stands fast always in this house and protects its members.
