2 Peter 3:9
"The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. "
No one promised life would be easy with days passing by full of blessing yet to be bestowed. The sad fact is, it can be downright excruciating as you wake up those morning under Murphy's Law. These days you can't find the right outfit for work, or coffee spills on your white pants as you exit the door. On bleaker days, maybe it's life altering news such as an illness that afflicts one you love. How do we operate these days when prayer after prayer seems to go unanswered?
The first rule of thumb is to begin your path of acceptance. Acceptance is the first step in renewing your spirit. Unfortunately, during this time, it seems as if God is slow to answer your call, yet he is the only one who knows the precise moment you need intervention. Your first point of acceptance is the fact that this is in God's hands not yours.
Failure to accept what is happening denies you the power of conscious choice. It is natural when a life altering experience deals its ugly hand to revert to denial and confusion. We get angry and nothing makes sense. Then just as quickly, fear enters and all earthly sense flees completely. Sadly, when you do not chose acceptance initially, you live by default, and are victim of emotions gone awry.
Here's the simple part. Acceptance is just recognition. It is not a mind-altering feat to change your situation immediately. It is just recognizing your situation for what it is, a temporary situation. It doesn't mean that you won't be angry or confused for awhile, but by recognizing it as temporary, opens new doors for change. It calms our nerves and allows for direct prayer and alternate routes to be open. Yes, there are times that there are life threatening incidents such as a devastating illness. But, whether we chose to stay in that dreadful emotional state is up to us. Feelings are fleeting and temporary. When you undergo acceptance it usually means something is hidden and will soon be revealed to you. Accept, let go, and pray.
