James 1:16
"Do not be misled, my beloved brethren."
Frazzled lately? Things feeling a bit way-out-there?
It could be because you are letting your emotions get the best of you.
If we want to walk with the Spirit, then all of our actions must be governed by God's principles. In the realm of the Spirit, there is a precise standard of right and wrong, and how we feel does not alter that standard. If doing the right thing requires a "yes" from us, then it must be a "yes" regardless of what emotion is taking over. If the right thing means "no" then a "no" it must be besides the effervescent high we are feeling at the moment. A principled life is enormously different from the emotional life. Emotional people wear their hearts on their sleeves. If they are happy then they will gladly pull out all the stakes for a needed "yes". But if they are down and out, then the "no" may not get done. They are too emotionally wrapped around the situation and refuse to cooperate. Which one are you?
If you desire to be truly spiritual then yo must conduct yourself daily according to godly principles. A good sign to show you're growing and maturing in Christ is when you consistently obey, even if your emotions are taking you in a different direction.
Let me give you a bit of advice. Learn to not ask yourself how you feel about things.
I'm going to let that set in for a bit. After all, every time something goes down in your life it is common to ponder, "Wow, how do I feel about this? Is it right for me? Hmmmmm....."
Instead ask yourself if doing or not doing something is right for you following in God's principles. Sometimes you may need to do something, but you don't feel like doing it at all. Thinking it over and wondering if it is right for you may not be in your best interest at that moment. You must live by Christian principle and simply choose to do what you know is right.
There may be certain things you want badly. Maybe it may be a purchase that you know is too expensive for your budget. You're feelings say "yes" but your mind says "no". Tell your feelings that they don't get to vote. They are too immature and often run our lives.
You know, they don't allow people to vote until they are 18 because they are too immature to make well-thought-out decisions. Why not look at your emotions the same way? They have always been a part of your life, but they ARE very immature. They are without wisdom and cannot be trusted to do the right thing. So, just don't let them get a vote in your life.
One last thing - we mature but our emotions don't, if you are finding you let them in a bit too much, close that door and move forward today.
This Week's Meditation:
What areas of your life do emotions rule?
Pray:
Help me to realize when emotions are ruling my life.
Teach me to close the door when it happens.
Remind me to read your word each day, Lord.
Meditate on this for several minutes a day. Allow various thoughts to come into your mind. And realize God has you in his arms always.
