John 13:35
"By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Such a sweet Bible verse that expresses the single most important emotion related to daily living is bestowed in John’s words. “Love one and other,” is simplistic, yet probably one of the most difficult commandments to follow. After all, how do we love the individual who is blatantly mean and obstinate? That person when you lay eyes on them in the morning evokes sheer disgust? And why should we? After all he causes nothing but dismay every time his mouth opens.
Because if we don’t, a seed is planted and is reconstituted each time those feelings arise. Anger, disgust, and dismay are powerful tools that inhibit personal growth. They resemble an impermeable net that disallows positive energy in the form of blessings to enter while they are engaged. And, with life’s perils already at our feet from time to time, why do we want to welcome more?
When you are in contact with someone you loathe, try a simple task. Look at that individual and find his good quality. Everyone, if you dig deep enough, has an asset. Just taking a moment to look for something positive will switch your brain in a different mode. If he is a co-worker, find that one thing that makes his job proficient. After all, if he leaves you could be picking up the slack. Then each time you are in that same breathing space, remember that positive trait. This will make you more tolerant when situations unfold in the
future.
Jesus wants us to love one and other, not just tolerate them. In fact, if we reach out to others, lovely blessings will follow. Go out of your way offering to pick someone up for work. Or, offer to babysit your friends children if she looks stressed and needs a break. By giving of ourselves, we prompt others to give to us. We are an interwoven blanket of shared talents that need stitching to complete the whole effect of a shared community.
Daily Guidance
1. Look for ways to be of service to others. Reaching out makes you feel wanted and appreciated. We all need that!
2. Reach out to those you love being sure to add in daily quality time.
Don’t allow your schedule to inundate you beyond repair. Money brings no true happiness without those you love.
3. Be on the lookout this week to be a good disciple. Find that person, even if you don’t know them, to reach down, pick up a dropped paper, handing it back smiling. Be a good steward of life.
