Mark 8:18
"You have eyes - can't you see? You have ears - can't you hear? Don't you remember anything at all?"
It may surprise you how powerful your mind is. I had a dear friend once a few years back who told me. "My grandmother had a stroke. My mother had a stroke. I know that will be my fate, also." Wouldn't you know it? At 62 she had a stroke, too. Sadly, we had made future plans those last few years as friends. We both loved to camp, and when my family had grown and moved on, we planned on some Smoky Mountain fun that included white water rafting. But, Mary received what she predicted.
You may think she had a stroke thinking she didn't have faith. I got to tell you faith was fine in her department. What I don't think Mary realized was that faith can function negatively just as it functions positively. If your family has a long history of sickness or disease, don't sit back and think this is going to happen to you. Don't chime in and say, "Well, I guess this my hand dealt in life."
You can change and repaint that picture. You need to start developing a new canvas. You can break the curse of ill health or unhappiness. All you need is to start procuring a new vision. Ask God to fill your eyes with light.
I once heard a true story of a woman who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She had only a few weeks to live. When she received the diagnosis she sat down and prayed. Her faith was strong, and she refused to give up. She began placing scripture verses around her house in places she would read each several times a day. She dusted off her family album and took out photos of happier times. She began placing these photos all over her house. She was 86 pounds at the time, but the photos she placed were when she was of good health. She placed them in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. Each room she went into she was reminded of good health and happiness. All of these photos portrayed her as happy, strong, healthy, and living life to the fullest. She did not focus on her sick body. Within a few months, God totally healed her and she is alive to this day.
What type of pictures do you have around your house? Do they inspire you? Are there quotes and Bible verses that can build up your faith? Do they portray you having fun with the people you love? Do you look at these pictures with fulfillment? Or do you glance at them and wish your body was thinner? Or, do you think of how happy you once were?
To begin you must trash any such negative thoughts from your mind. Then you need to go through your house and revamp your pictures. This is your sanctuary. This reprieve is made where your faith is built. Go through and scrutinize each of your photos and pictures. Change out those that make you think negatively to pictures that will build you up. Place quotes and Bible quotes around so other family members will be inspired too. As you do, let the image of victory take root. Get it on the inside.
Don't get stuck in a rut. Nothing may be going right for you now, but start seeing yourself rising out of it. See yourself overcoming any negativity in your life. Envision yourself getting that promotion. Let that image sink deep down inside you. Look at your new pictures and let your spirit be filled.
