1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
There is nothing like the spirit of Christmas to inspire all to cleanse their hearts. It is this child like anticipation that moves each one of us into utter repentance for all the Christian things we've failed to do. For all the times we were selfish and wished for a bit more, we now repent and take gratitude in the single minutest advantages in our lives that allow us to grower closer to the ones we love during this joyous season.
It is these small mounds of bitterness that occupy our lives that make the holidays so sweet. For during those times of question, the rivers of the heart open wide and embrace what truly matters in our lives. It is during these times that we aim to clean the sediment that has built up all year clouding our visions of true happiness. These cloudy torrents that obstruct our view from his glorious presence making life unbearable some days. But once the water is filtered, so do the holidays become crystal clear.
This holiday pray for a deep cleansing of your soul to awaken your senses. A cleansing that is unseen by no other than God. Don't just define your efforts on surface bitterness; deep down there may be something that keeps you from true spiritual cleanliness. That bitterness experienced intermittently is a reminder that something deeper needs to be addressed.
Today's verse reminds us that God is in the cleansing business. His is not a facility that offers a onetime service. Rather, it is an area in our lives that must constantly be addressed. We all know we are not perfect. If we allow him, the Holy Spirit will go to work in the deepest crevices of your life. John tells us that if we get honest with God and confess our sins, he will not only forgive us but cleanse or purify us from all unrighteousness. When we confess he cleans our inner most thoughts. Take time today and ask the Holy Spirit to do some deep cleaning for you.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your great love!
I know you desire truth in the innermost places of my life.
Thank you for the work of the Holy Spirit in cleansing these places.
Reveal to me today any area of my life that needs work.
I desire to experience your forgiveness and cleansing today. Amen.
