Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing sould and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the ghoughts and attitudes of the heart."
The Bible is unlike any other book written in the world today. Why look at the sheer fact of its publication date and note that there have been over six million sold since its inception. Yes, it is still one of the most sought after books in the world and makes the bestselling book list. If you haven't picked one up lately, what are you missing?
Its verses, though antiquated, still read like a Shakespearean play that can be applied to every stage of your life. Hence, it is called the word of God since he speaks directly to us through its passages. That is why there are 168,000 Bibles sold or given away each day. This is one historical book that never grows old or causes impatience for its readers.
Books are written to entertain or inform. The Bible does both. And more importantly, let me tell you, by reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating on this book; you're life will change!. Today's verse epitomizes the writer's relationship with God. He writes about the living stating that the center of God's should be characterized by serenity, peacefulness, and earning his favor. This is the passage that is known as God's "rest." He wants us to open, read, and rest in his spirit.
That is because the Bible, when used in the Spirit of God, has the ability to influence us at the depths of our most inner being. The writer of Hebrews expresses this by saying it penetrates as deep as the division between the soul and spirit, joints and marrow. The Bible's influence goes all the way to the heart of our very thoughts and attitudes. When read in the right spirit, the openness of God shines through us each day through his words.
Try reading a verse a day. Feel free to journal thoughts you are having so that you can slip back and read changes you've made in your life in the future. Do remember to quiet yourself after reading. Listen to that inner voice that is God speaking to you. Feel his presence surrounding you, keeping you warm and at peace.
