Luke 6:35
"But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great....."
Forgive those who have hurt you. That's a hard pill to swallow since distrust is lodged in your heart. But forgiveness does not mean moving forward as before. It means just that, forgive and do no evil to them.
One of the reasons we find forgiving others difficult when we're hurt is because we have told ourselves that forgiving is hard to do. After all, they hurt us. They inflicted pain that we did not ask for. By doing this we have convinced ourselves and set our minds to fail at one of God's most reverend commands, which is to forgive and pray for our enemies and those who hurt us (Luke 6:35-36). That's because we play that movie time and time again - the great rerun- of what they did to us. But we fail to realize this is Satan's bait.
Praying for our enemies and those who hurt us is a blessing. Having the proper mindset is vital if we want obey God's commands. He never informs us of anything that is not good for us. He is always available to us to give us the strength we need to complete that task. We don't even have to think it through! Just do what he says.
Because God is just! Justice is one of his most admirable traits. He brings justice as we wait on him and trust him to be our vindicator when we've been offended. All he asks us to do is pray and forgive. Don't take up arms and forge a new path! He will do this for us if we just take the initiative to forgive and pray. Everything else will fall into place with is blessing. He makes our pain work out for our good (Roman 8:28). He justifies, vindicates, and also recompenses us. He pays us back for that pain! He even states we will receive "double for our trouble" (Isaiah 61:7).
As we renew our minds with thoughts such as, I readily and quickly forgive, we will find forgiving and releasing those negative emotions easier then ever to do. The reason is simple because, "Where the mind goes, the heart follow." As we mentally and verbally agree with God by obeying him, he will guide the rest of that journey without much effort from us.
This Week's Meditation:
Teach me to "forgive automatically."
Pray:
Help me to meditate each day: "Help me to forgive and be kind."
Teach me to be patient and know you will mentor me. Remind me that prayer motivates me.
Meditate on this for several minutes a day. Allow various thoughts to come into your mind. And realize God has you in his arms always.
