Zechariah 4:6
"Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," says the Lord of hosts."
Willpower can be a decisive tool in the hands of a determined, disciplined individual. It has known power to confront any problem that is laid at your doorstep. All you have to do is adjust your lifestyle. But be warned, willpower only takes you so far, and then you're going to run out of your own strength.
What about, if instead of turning to your own willpower first, you skipped a few steps here, and turned to God instead? Then God releases his power into you and enables you to go all the way through to the victory. Furthermore, you're energized for positive change, but willpower does not get the credit for success, God does.
Karen, who has a fear of testing, recently had to go through a Nuclear Lexiscan to test her heart. A true queen of willpower, Karen was scaling all the internet sites to see what to expect and how to prepare herself best. Unfortunately, she was known to have multiple chemical sensitivities, and no matter how long she looked, hunted, and picked apart the information in front of her, that pit in the bottom of her stomach grew and grew. It seemed that the nervousness was beginning to consume her more and more each day.
She called me a few days ago explaining her situation. I immediately asked her if she and laid it at the foot of God asking for his help. "Gosh, no, I wasn't thinking of that. I was just on a quest to find out the essential information I needed."
We stopped right there and prayed, "Dear God, please protect Karen before, during, and after the test. Have her receive no symptoms that are truly adverse during the procedure. Allow her to be at peace throughout this time knowing that you have her victory in your hands. We ask this in the them name of Jesus Christ, your son. Amen."
The next day she called and explained her perspective had changed. She innately knew this was best for her, and it needed to be done.
The following day I received another call, "Thanks so much for being there as always. I went through the test, and I was at peace through the whole procedure. God was with me. Why I waited and tried to take the wheel is beyond me. God bless."
Jesus said, "Apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). This is one of the most important and difficult lessons learned. When we turn to anything or anyone before God, He is insulted and is obliged to let us fail so we will realized that "except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it" (Ps. 127:1)
We must let God do the lifting.
There are some people in the world who claim to be self-made success, but if we follow their lives all the way through, they usually end up falling apart. God has not created us to function well without him, and the sooner we learn that the better off we will be.
Start today by asking God to get involved with everything. Continue on with God and finish with God. What should we do when the burdens in life seem to heavy? Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28)
