"For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worth of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things."
Over run by negative thoughts?
Of course you are many days. Did you know that it is human nature to look at the bleak side of life? It's difficult to get around. We are programmed that way.
One day I was asking God why is it so easy that negative thoughts pummel our brains? In fact, as soon as I try to capture what I'm thinking and let go of them, they always come back. "What am I supposed to do?" I lamented. And God answered:
Think of something else.
When you think about something good, there is no room for wrong thoughts to get into your mind. Concentrating on trying to not think negative thoughts can actually increase them, but simply filling your mind with good things leaves no room for bad things to penetrate.
The Bible says that if we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16), and this simply means that if we concentrate on things God desires, then we will not have room in our lives for evil desires.
This was a life-changing revelation for me! I always prided myself on thinking outside the box looking for flaws. Little did I realize how much this was permeating my everyday thoughts. I realized I couldn't wait for something good to just fall into my brain. I had to choose my thoughts on purpose. the Bible says in Deuteronomy 30:19 that God sets before us life and death, blessings and curses. If you and I do not choose thoughts that lead to a pure life, then the enemy will make the choice for us. But when we choose thoughts that lead to life, our lives are blessed.
Now this is going to take practice. Take time this week to roll good thoughts over and over in your mind. this will help you form the habit of thinking good things. You must believe you can do this!
You can choose your own thoughts!
You can "overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:21).
This Week's Meditation:
Teach me to "think good thoughts."
Help me to meditate each day: "Think only positive thoughts"
Teach me to be patient and know you will mentor me. Remind me that prayer motivates me.
Meditate on this for several minutes a day. Allow various thoughts to come into your mind. And realize God has you in his arms always.
