Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
Jesus spoke those words to many on a small path overlooking a hill on the beautiful Sea of Galilee. Many of you associate this special verse with "The Sermon on the Mount." This passage depicts the picture of two diverse paths in life that must be chosen at some point in time. Very much like Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken," Jesus speaks of tough choices that must be made intermittently in our lives to find that path of true communion with him.
These roads spoken of represent our ways of living. There is a way of life, which at first glance, may seem the best possibility. That is because we are flanked with opinions from all those closest to us that eg us on to find the smoothest route. After all, everyone takes it because its turns and crevices are well known. It is marked by popular culture to be the path of least resistance. But, unbeknownst at first, it is a path that is littered and inundated with the clutter from the lives of those who made it their first choice. It is the path that is highly chosen by the crowd, and will nonetheless fill your life with futility.
The other is the road less traveled. Usually, it is longer with little bumps and hills along the way protected by the Holy Spirit. It is the path our hearts tug at, but out of fear, we relinquish it at first. It is an unknown route but will prove to be rewarding. It is the road to fulfillment through him.
You may be at a crossroads in your life. You might be facing new choices that will determine a new outcome for your life. Your heart may be tugging to follow that unbeaten path, but you hesitate. The Holy Spirit is working within you now trying to guide you - listen. By making good choices, you will reap blessings and experience God's love and guidance. Make that right choice now.
Lord Jesus, you are the way, the truth, and the life.
I need you to help me make the right choice
that will put me on the right path. I want you to
guide me to the true meaning and purpose in my own life.
Help me today. Amen.
