Psalm 46:4
"There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy dwelling places of the Most High."
Which way is your river flowing? Is it flowing straight from the heavens? Or is your meeting point way down stream? Don't be passive, sitting back and allowing negative, critical, pessimistic thoughts to influence your life. The Bible tells us that we need to be 'transformed by the renewing of our minds." (Romans 12:1-2) If you transform your thinking, god will transform your life.
If your thoughts have been running in a certain pattern for a long period of time, your own flowing river may be eroding and flowing in one stagnant direction. A person who is habitually leaning towards negative thought digs that riverbed a bit deeper each day not allowing tributaries. With every pessimistic thought, that riverbed gets deeper and deeper. The flow accelerates, growing stronger and stronger. After some time, the river is flowing so strongly that every thought perceived comes out negative and a negative thought pattern erupts.
Fortunately, through prayer and persistence, you can cause a new flow going in a positive direction. When you dwell with God, knowing he has a handle on ALL things, you are redirecting that river. Little by little, one thought at a time, you are changing that course. At first, just a little water will trickle out of the stream forming a new tributary. It may not seem like much at first, but as you continue to reject negative thoughts and redirect the flow due to your faith, that small stream will gain strength. Choosing faith instead of fear, and expecting good things to happen in life, will cause that river to begin flowing with a greater force. If you keep up the pace, that old stream will dry up, and you'll discover a whole new river flowing with positive faith-filled thoughts of victory.
Occasionally, you may be tempted to mull over discouraging thoughts. In the old days, you may give in thinking that nothing is going to work out. But now you have a new river flowing. You can simply say, "The Greater God is in me! I can handle all things through Christ!" Start tapping that new river, every time you do, you will establish that new, positive river a little deeper, and the fresh water will flow more deeply.
Keep in mind that this faith walk we take together is not easy. It takes constant vigilance to feel FREE. God will help you; he's always there.
This Week's Meditation:
I see myself as ________________. But my mind is part of God's. I am holy.
Meditate on this thought 3 times each day. Spend a few minutes answering the blank. Your thoughts can be positive or negative. It really doesn't matter. Be sure to end each thought with "But my mind is part of God's. I am holy." After all, we are made in his image!!!!
